Anderson County Commissioner Anthony Allen presented a $500 scholarship to Class of 2025 Oak Ridge High School graduate Zoe Brown at the May 19th meeting of the Anderson County Board of Commissioners.

Members of the Anderson County Board of Commissioners have again recognized three recent high school graduates with scholarships funded personally by the county commissioners.

Oak Ridge High School Class of 2025 graduate Zoe Brown was presented with a $500 scholarship when she was recognized at the Anderson County Commission’s regular meeting on Monday evening, May 19, at the Courthouse.

When asked if she wanted to give remarks at the Commission meeting, Brown said she wanted to thank all her teachers and staff who have helped her throughout her time as a student.

“I have a child, and it’s been really hard through high school, but they have really, really helped me,” Brown said.

Commission Vice Chair Shelly Vandagriff stated that she talked with Brown before the presentation. She said Brown is planning to attend Roane State Community College in the fall. Her goal is to become an RN and then go on and become a nurse practitioner or a doctor in pediatric oncology.

“We wish you the best. We know you’re going to work hard,” Vandagriff said.

In addition to ORHS graduate Zoe Brown, Anderson County High School graduate Lonna Barnette and Clinton High School graduate Jasmine Francisco also received $500 scholarships. The ACHS and CHS graduates received their scholarship awards at each school’s senior awards night ceremony held prior to graduation.

The Anderson County Board of Commissioners established and began contributing personal funds to a scholarship fund in the mid-1990s. The fund is meant to provide a scholarship annually to a graduate at each of the three high schools in the county. Staff in the guidance departments at each high school collect the applications and then select the scholarship winners.
